Make John McCain Commit to Ending Affirmative Action!

John McCain, the candidate that pro-whites love to hate, recently gave me a pleasant surprise when he endorsed Ward Connerly’s ballot initiative in Arizona to end affirmative action there. Not only did he support Connerly in a television interview, but he quoted the text of the initiative on the NAACP’s Civil Rights Questionaire. Given the controversial nature of Connerly’s initiatives, which the political establishment and ethnic lobbies have stubbornly resisted, McCain’s stand is courageous.

Though we may not like the McCain candidacy, I think we should make the best of it. I still don’t think we should vote for him, but he should be congratulated for his courage on this issue. Moreover, we should encourage to McCain to make ending affirmative action a central plank in his campaign. As I explain in the sample e-mail below, his views on racial preferences have not yet figured prominently in his public statements. If we get him to commit to ending affirmative action in high-profile speeches, there is a better chance he will make good on his promises in the future.

Below I’ve written a sample e-mail to send to McCain and to various conservative pundits. You can e-mail Sen. McCain here.

For more information, check out my previous e-mails to McCain.

Thanks for doing your part!

Dear Sen. McCain:

In the past, I have not been a fan of yours. Because of your advocacy of illegal alien amnesty and other liberal positions on immigration and race issues, I was bitterly disappointed when you were chosen as the Republican presidential candidate. I swore that I wouldn’t vote for you no matter how much I despised Barack Obama.

However, recently you did something that impressed me and that might change my opinion of you. You came out in support of Ward Connerly’s ballot initiative in Arizona to end racial preferences there. You followed that up by quoting the text of the ballot initiative on the NAACP Civil Rights Questionnaire.

I applaud your straightforward and unequivocal endorsement of this effort to end discrimination against white people in university admissions and employment. Instead of buckling before the racial and ethnic pressure groups, you courageously did the right thing.

That said, it distresses me that you are keeping your position on affirmative action under wraps. When I visited your campaign website, I saw no mention of affirmative action on the Issues page. Nor have you mentioned your sympathy with Mr. Connerly’s ballot initiatives in any of your speeches.

I’m starting to suspect that your statements on this issue were a mere sop to conservatives that will be conveniently forgotten in the future.

If you are to stand any chance of getting my vote, you must make ending affirmative action a central plank in your campaign. That means including statements on affirmative action on your website and in high-profile speeches. If you show me that you are serious about this issue, I will rethink my decision to stay home on election day.

Sincerely,

Subject: Make McCain Commit to Ending Affirmative Action!

Body: Recently, the RINO John McCain surprised me by courageously stating a basic conservative principle: he came out in support of Ward Connerly’s ballot initiative in Arizona to end affirmative action. Not many people know about McCain’s view on this issue, however, because neither his website nor his campaign speeches have addressed affirmative action.

Though we may not be happy with it, conservatives need to make the best of the McCain candidacy. I’d like you to publicly applaud McCain for his position on affirmative action and encourage him to make it a central issue in his campaign. Please demand that McCain commit to ending affirmative action on his website and in high-profile speeches.
