Update 5/21/08: The issue that this action alert deals with has now been resolved. The Feinstein amendment has been stripped from the Iraq spending bill. Consequently, there is no further need to take the actions recommended below.
Senator Diane Feinstein of California has attached an amendment to the Iraq spending bill currently under consideration by the Senate that would grant a five-year visa to illegal alien agricultural workers. All told, the amendment would apply to as many as three million illegals. Please act today to stop this new amnesty plan.
If you believe the government’s promise to send the workers home after five years, I’ve got a bridge to sell you. In fact, provisions like this one that congress tries to sneak by us unnoticed represent a creeping amnesty, and they must be crushed in the bud. The Senate will debate the bill this week, so you should act now.
For more details on Feinstein’s amendment, see here and here.
Please e-mail the message below or one of your own composition to your Senators through their online contact forms. Contact information for your Senators is available on the Senate website.
Thanks for doing your part.
Sen. Diane Feinstein has attached an amendment to the Iraq spending bill that would grant a five-year visa to illegal agricultural workers. Please work to strip this amnesty out of the bill.
Sen. Feinstein’s bill would not only allow more than a million illegal alien workers to stay in this country, but also grant amnesty to their illegal spouses and children. The agricultural workers could even bring their families to America if they are not already here. All told, the amnesty might apply to as many as three million.
Given our country’s history of failure to enforce immigration laws, I am deeply skeptical that these agricultural workers would be forced to leave the US after five years. Furthermore, any children the workers had while here would be US citizens who could bring their families in legally through our family reunification immigration policy.
I oppose this bill out of concern for the effect that Hispanics are having on America. Statistics on Hispanics make it clear that most of them do not assimilate into American society:
If America is to retain her prosperity and her pride of place among nations, we need a population that can live up to the standards that made this country great. We need a nation of educated and morally responsible taxpayers, not one of criminals, high school dropouts, and welfare users.
And that means we need to encourage Hispanics to leave, not to stay.
Sincerely,

Amazing! Feinstein must really support our troops by attaching this to the Iraq spending bill. This was already debated by the legislative process. The people stated they didn’t want amnesty. I guess her agenda is more important than the democratic process! Kind of like the four idiot judges in California who feel there opinion is more important than the voice of over a million California citizens.
