The Inverted World

Leukophobia

At the beginning of the month, I wrote that we realists need a new name for our enemy. The problem with the term “liberal” is that it suggests that the enemy is in favor of freedom, an inversion of the truth. I eventually settled on “diversity authoritarianism” as the best term for the evil that rules the world, but now, a month later, I have to admit that it will not do at all. I ran into the limitations of “diversity authoritarianism” when I tried to describe the political worldview of John McCain. A scarlet thread runs through many of the man’s pet issues—amnesty, global warming, and Guantanamo Bay hysteria—and it is this thread that I am anxious to name. Diversity authoritarianism won’t cut it though: it would be nonsensical to use this term to designate moonbat environmentalism, so I fell back on “liberal,” and apologized.

The problem was that the phenomenon I seek to name is much broader than mere diversity authoritarianism. Rather, the scarlet thread is fear and loathing of the white race. The heirs of the Frankfurt school and the 1960s youth movement, those who fret over nativism, global warming, and the infliction of mild discomfort on Islamic terrorists do so because they see these phenomena as confirmation of their most deeply cherished theory: that whites are the race of intolerance, greed, sadism, and xenophobia. After all, why else would Al Gore single out America as the worst environmental offender in the world when that dishonor belongs to China? Why else would the press print as truth ridiculous rumors about American misbehavior in Guantanamo Bay?

So we need a term that designates fear and loathing of the white race. It’s not too hard to invent one, although it strikes an odd tone at first. It’s leukophobia, derived from leukos, the Greek word meaning “white” and “fair in color,” and phobia, which, of course, means fear and loathing.

The term has drawbacks, of course, which is why I didn’t push it after raising it as a possibility in the original Naming the Enemy post. Neologisms are generally to be avoided, and “leukophobia” unfortunately reminds one of leukemia. However, the term does designate the great evil with admirable precision. When I say that McCain’s pet issues show his leukophobic tendencies, you know what I mean.

And no other term will do. Readers sent in various suggestions, but none of them satisfy me. Terms like “multicultist,” “racial authoritarian,” “racial Marxist,” and so forth fall prey to the same problem as diversity authoritarian: it is nonsensical to apply them to moonbat environmentalism and other manifestations of leukophobia. Besides, many of these terms attribute to leukophobes sins that they are not guilty of. John McCain isn’t likely to die in a mass cult suicide, and he doesn’t talk at all like Lenin. “Europhobia” is better, but it will inevitably be taken to mean fear of Europeans, rather than whites as a whole.

Another advantage of “leukophobia” is that it teams up nicely with a counterpart word formed on the same principle: chromophilia, or love of color. Leukophobia and chromophilia are two sides of the same coin. Leukophobes are not only eager to see the sins of whites, but to hide and apologize for those of non-whites. The racial politics of Law & Order, for example, is grounded both in leukophobia and chromophilia. The final kicker: those suffering from chromophilia are chromophiliacs, a word which has distinct and highly appropriate overtones of perversion and dementia.

So, there we have it. I devote myself forthwith to battle the twin demons of leukophobia and chromophilia. Do the rest of you share my feeling that I have finally discovered the enemy’s true names?
