The Northern League, Italy’s anti-immigration party, did very well in the elections that brought conservative Silvio Berlusconi back into power after the collapse of the leftist government. The Northern League got eight percent of the vote, with over 20 percent support in two Italian provinces. One of their campaign posters, shown below, depicted an American Indian, with the words, “They also let immigrants in and now they live on reservations! Think about it.” It’s heartening to know that such things can be said now in Europe.
